Magnesium is one of the most important minerals for the body, it activates several enzymes and is an essential element in the proper functioning of the muscular system and the cardiovascular system. Magnesium is not stored in the body and must therefore be supplied in the daily diet.

Magnesium is one of the minerals commonly seen in horses and humans. The symptoms associated with magnesium deficiency in horses are nervousness and lack of will.

When lacking magnesium, the body is not able to take care of the substances secreted during stress or during an anxious situation. What explains the ever aggravating deficits in magnesium is soil depletion, and an imbalance in the ratio between calcium and magnesium. An excess of calcium blocks the process of assimilating magnesium.

The proportion of calcium and magnesium is 5 to 2. A lack of magnesium can cause all sorts of malfunctions.

Use

Signs of lacking magnesium can express itself in a more nervous horse, especially when it is no longer able to react normally to danger and can become difficult to manage. This can also happen to otherwise calm horses, whenever they find themselves in stressful situations such as competitions, where the tension is more apparent.

When the level of magnesium is too low, the body is not able to manage the substances generated by stress in particular situations. A lack of magnesium affects the coordination of the muscles. You can sometimes notice these symptoms by gently putting your fingers on the side of the horse, and observing a slight "quivering" of the muscles.

Attention should be paid to the need of administering magnesium if the horse is not fit, suffers from pain, or sweats a lot during exercise. Diarrhea or liquid stools may increase the need for dietary supplements.

Dosage

10 ml / day (about 10 g) for a large horse (550 kg) in the diet.

1 kg of supplement is sufficient for 100 days.

For other sizes, respect a dose proportional to the weight of the horse or comply with the prescription of the veterinarian.
